Plushies are special companions you can take almost everywhere, but can you take a stuffed animal on an airplane? This question may pop up once you start doing your luggage. At first, it may seem like there's no problem, but what if they take it from you?

No need to worry. In this post, we will explain if you can bring your stuffed toys on a flight and under what conditions. This way, you avoid having a bad time that will ruin the rest of your trip.

Are plushies allowed on planes?

The short answer is yes, but you have to follow specific regulations and guidelines.

According to TSA regulations in the US, people can take stuffed animals as part of their carry-on luggage or checked bags. Yet they have to meet size and weight restrictions; like, the plushie should be able to fit under the seat in front of you. This is because you'll probably have to put it in there during take-off and landing.

Plus, most airlines have a size limit for carry-on items, which typically is 22 x 14 x 9 inches. Some have weight limits as well, ranging from 15 to 25 pounds. Still, all this can vary by airline.

What happens if the stuffed toy is larger than the size or weight limit? Then you have to check it as luggage and may have to pay additional fees.  The only problem with this is that it will likely wear or tear during transit. An option may be to buy an extra seat for the plush toy, like a passenger.

That's why you have to check with your specific airline before taking your plushie to the airport.

On top of that, some airlines may not allow certain types of plushies, even if they meet the size limit, like those with batteries or electronic components.

What are the rules for taking a stuffed animal on a plane?

If you're planning to travel with your plushie, here's what you need to consider:

  • Check your airline's guidelines about size and weight limits for plushies, as well as if there's any type of material not allowed.

  • Measure and weigh your plushie to check if it can fit in your carry-on bag. If it exceeds the limits, then check how to fit it inside your checked luggage. In case it's an oversized plushie, like a life-sized teddy bear, check if you can buy an extra seat for it.

  • Be prepared for your plushie to go through security screening. It may be necessary to go through an X-ray machine.

  • A good tip is using vacuum compression bags as this reduces the size of the plushie and makes transportation easier.

To sum up, bringing a stuffed toy on a plane depends on the airline's specific rules. So, in the end, you have to check first about their guidelines to know how to take your dear stuffed animals with you.
