There are two ways to send a stuffed animal to someone: mail it yourself in a box with a note tucked inside, or order one from a shop that gift-boxes it and ships it straight to them. Mailing it yourself takes about twenty minutes and arrives in 2–5 business days by USPS Ground Advantage, tracking included. Ordering one sent gift-ready skips the packing and the post office entirely.
Which one makes sense depends on whether you already have the plush in your hands. Both are covered below, along with one small addition most people don't think about until the box is already taped shut.
Before you pack anything: put something in writing
Most stuffed animals get mailed on their own. The plush arrives, they lift it out of the box, and they text you "aww, thank you." That's fine. But it means the gift has to explain itself, and a plush can't.
A short note changes that. It doesn't have to be a card from a shop or a paragraph you agonised over. A folded piece of paper with one line in your handwriting does it. "Saw this and thought of you." "For the nightstand. Feel better." That's enough. It tells them why it came, and it turns a cute thing into a message from you.
So before you pack, decide what you want the plush to say, and write it down. Everything below assumes you did.
How to pack a stuffed animal for shipping
A plush is easy to ship badly. It has ears, a face, and stuffing that flattens when something heavy sits on it in a truck for four days. The packing is what protects it, so do these in order:
Bag it first. Put the plush in a clean plastic bag and press the air out. Boxes get rained on, and a wet plush arrives looking like it's been through the wash.
Use a box, not a padded envelope, if it has ears, a tail, or a face that matters. Envelopes get crushed under other parcels. A box slightly bigger than the plush, with crumpled paper filling the gaps, is right.
Put the note against the plush, not loose in the box. If you wrote one, and you should have by now, fold it and tuck it into the tissue or against the plush's chest. A card that's loose slides under the packing paper and gets missed. Against the plush, it's the first thing they see when they lift it out.
Tape every seam, including the bottom. Cheap boxes pop open at the base when they're dropped.
Write the address on the box itself rather than on a label that can peel off, if you can.

What it costs to ship a stuffed animal and how long it takes
Shipping is priced by weight and box size. A plush is light but bulky, so you're mostly paying for the box.
USPS Ground Advantage is usually the cheapest way to ship a stuffed animal within the US. USPS lists it at 2–5 business days for packages up to 70 lbs, with tracking included. You supply your own box.
Priority Mail is faster at 2–3 business days, and its flat-rate boxes are free from the post office. A medium flat-rate box fits most 10–12 inch plush, so if yours fits, you don't buy packaging at all.
Rates change often enough that any dollar figure written here would be wrong within a few months, so check at the counter or on the USPS site before you decide. Alaska, Hawaii and PO boxes run slower than the windows above.
Having a stuffed animal sent to someone gift-ready
If you don't already own the plush, there's a shortcut. Some shops exist to do exactly this: you pick a plush on their site, type a message, enter the other person's address, and they box it, add your message, and ship it straight to them. You never touch it. Buying a plush and then mailing it yourself means paying for the plush, the box, the postage, and an afternoon. Ordering one that ships gift-ready does all of it in one order.

How it's packaged. Look for a photo of the actual box it arrives in, not just the plush on a white background. A gift box with tissue and a card is a very different unboxing from a plush in a poly mailer.
What happens to your message. Most shops let you type one. Look for how it's delivered: printed on a packing slip, printed on a card, or written out by hand. They read very differently when the box is opened.
Shipping cost and delivery time, shown before checkout. Some include shipping in the price; some add it at the end. Either is fine, as long as you know before you type the address.

Think about the order it happens in. A box arrives with their name on it that they weren't expecting. They open it. There's tissue, and under the tissue something soft with a face, and tucked against it a card with a line from you. That thirty seconds is the gift: the surprise, the lifting out, the reading. So do both parts well. If you're mailing it yourself, wrap it, write the card before the tape comes out, and tuck the note where they'll see it first. If you're ordering it sent, look at the box photo and read your message back once before you pay. That's the part they'll read twice.
